The lives of Shrewsbury Township residents changed from 1800 to 1900 because of improvements in so many parts of their daily living. These included changes in Transportation, Communication, Government, Public Education, Agricultural, Industrial, and Family life. They also were impacted by national events like the Civil War and economic instability.
Speaker: Rev. Sterling Fritz grew up on a farm outside of New Freedom. He graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1977 and York College of Pennsylvania in 1981. He graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 2002 and has served two congregations as an Ordained United Church of Christ minister. Rev. Fritz has extended family roots in Southern York County that date back to the first settlers. He started doing genealogical research when he was in high school and since that time, he has discovered a great deal of information about many generations of his ancestors who lived here for over 250 years. He has utilized civil records, church records, and old newspapers. He has researched local and community history as well. He and his wife, Rev. Susan Fritz, live in Adams County, PA.
